Last week some of the guys from CF Palmetto Bay and CF Homestead went to Key Largo to spearfish for a couple of days. But, thanks to tropical storm Berry, it was too murky to hunt underwater. We resorted to "pole" fishing in the Gulf for that time. We caught alot of fish (70+) on day one, including this shark. It's a bonnethead, cousin to the Hammerhead. It was about 18 inches long, fought like a champ and wouldn't stop snapping his jaws at me while I removed the hook. It was like a machine...all muscle and determined. We got the hook out and watched him swim away.
revolution begins a study in James this weekend for the summer. Our first week we are discussing trials and temptations. While reading this week, I was reminded of the importance of seeking God's face in all situations, not just the ones I find difficult. Honestly, there are all times when we feel "we got it" and there is no need to seek God, we can handle it. As long as the problem is something we can handle, do we really need to approach God with it? I think so, if for nothing else, to ask for wisdom to handle the situation appropriately.
I run from big sharks in the water, not the little ones or Nurse sharks. When I see something I feel could eat me, I'm seeking God's face pretty earnestly. I don't have the confidence I do with an 18 inch shark. As a Christ follower, all of my problems or trials should be soaked in prayer, no matter the size or my confidence in myself. It's a tough lesson, but worth learning.
By the way, a guy at our church spearfishes for a living. He encountered our sharks' big cousin, check it out here.
