Central America

Our team has landed safely in El Salvador and enjoyed our first day here in San Salvador. You can read the pre-leaving blog at our church's new mission's blog, www.cfmissions.org.

I always learn something when I'm here and today is no different. We're barely 24 hours into it and already I am challenging my thinking. We're partnering with a great, forward thinking church, Zacamil Baptist. I've learned to be grateful for what we have and also learned what is good to practice in terms of church work and what isn't.

Mission trips are so great. I hate being away from my wife (Jen was going to teach a science camp this week) and from our church so i really want to get the most out of my time being away. It's difficult to be away on the weekends when that's our big events for the year. In the very few spare moments we have, I'm trying to read, write or even blog about our experience. Our team is strong and that's going to be great this week, it will be pretty demanding. Our schedule is a balance of medical clinics and evangelism in schools and hosting soccer/basketball tournaments, so it will also be alot of fun.

I got to drive quite a bit today here. the driving isn't that much different from Miami other than the manholes that have no covers on them (yes, you read it right. no covers on the manholes in some spots), the street signs are "suggestions" and the police can write you a ticket if they feel you are mocking them. (true story, it wasn't me, but i watched it happen last night at the airport!).

Well, it's time for bed. The clock says 10:30 but my mind knows its really 1230 at home!
