What an amazing day. I'll do my best to be both informative and brief.
Our first full day of ministry was doing a medical clinic in a small town outside of San Salvador. It's our first time doing this full on and it was an unbelievable experience. Here's some of the stats from our day today:
1. We saw over 300 adult patients...that doesn't include probably at least that many children. (we only counted adults even if the kids were seen).
2. Our "clinic" was two small townhomes next door to each other. (one of them was one room only...so we aren't talking alot of space) One side of the clinic was for physical exams, consultations and prescriptions and the other side was the pharmacy and the spiritual counseling. Every single person (except 5 or so) heard the Gospel in a one on one situation at least once.
3. 50 people made decisions for Christ. They were simply presented with the truth and chose to accept it. Amazing.
Many more expressed interest and wanted to know more. Still others wanted more info about the church. It was literally heart wrenching to meet people who couldn't read or write, but believed with their whole heart what their priest told them about salvation and eternity.
Here are some of the reasons we heard against Christianity today:
1. A woman said, " I can't be a Christian. I like to wear pants."
2. I must give to charities to get to heaven. I must do good things.
3. I've done too many bad things.
4. Many people were physically sick due to emotional problems. Death of a loved one ranked number one-not sleeping, etc played a major role in peoples health. It was awesome to see a woman who had mourned her dead son for a year find peace in a relationship with Jesus.
5. We have an all star team. The temps were probably 95 or so, our team worked all day in a house with only a couple of fans...a concrete house with minimal windows. I'm not saying it was hot in there, but I'm convinced i saw a guy cooking eggs on the floor! Anyway, no complaints from the team. Crazy. I'm impressed.
Here are some other random facts:
a. hot dogs are decent here
b. only 2 team members have thrown up (that we know of)
c. the salvadorans are very welcoming and open.
We’re excited about tomorrow!
Jeff
