Lobster mini season

It's an unofficial holiday in South Florida. For two days, the water is churned and the reefs are picked clean of any lobster that is within reach. It's borderline mayhem in some areas...tourists and novice boat drivers cause a bit of stress when bullying into someone else's dive spot or running over someone all together.

However, we are more than happy to be part of the melee. This year was different.

We left at 10pm on Tuesday night, the official season opening at 12:01am on Wednesday morning. We had an awesome time has we pushed ourselves to try some new things...here's a few things we tried for the first time:

1. Navigated the Atlantic Ocean at night. (GPS is amazing.)
2. Made multiple dives in pitch black night with only underwater flashlights.
3. Spent 17 hours the first day on a 20 foot boat.
4. Saw multiple sharks, 2 in the same place. (both under 3 feet though!)

We didn't limit out on Wednesday, but brought home 44.

Thursday was pretty cool too.  We only caught 12 lobsters and got a couple of fish as well.  We learned some new things and found some new spots.

If you are in town and ready to give it a shot, let us know!

Oh yeah, lobster on the grill with just the right marinade is tough to beat!

Lobsters taste so much better when they are ones you catch yourself.
