The book is written by a non-Christian who takes an introspective look into the world of Christian music; everything from David Crowder and the worship genre to Underoath and the screamo genre.
I've always wanted an honest look at the Christian industry from someone who isn't a believer. This book was what I was looking for. The author, Andrew Beaujon, goes to great lengths to see all sides of the industry. Some of his interactions with Christians are affirming and point to Christ. Some however, are business as usual and finds himself repulsed by what is happening, particularly in the name of faith.
It's not a fairy tale book. The author doesn't become a Christian in the end. Sadly, the author points out that it was 6 months into his study before someone actually inquired about his personal faith and whether he was a Christian or not.
One redeeming quality, however, is that many of the genuine people he meets do authenticate the faith. He sees their passion and authenticity and realizes it isn't just an industry for them; they care about people and eternity.
If you have the time, check it out. It's a helpful insight to how we can live out "church-ianity" versus Christ-ianity.
