Jen and I visitied two different places this week. Each place motivated me in some way. It's interesting the effect the content of a simple place can have on us.
The first was the "Bodies Exhibit" at Sunset Place. We've talked about going for some time, but since it officially ends today, we decided to finally do it. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. If you haven't heard of it, check it out here.. Real human bodies have been scientifically displayed for evaluation and understanding. I went and was thoroughly impressed. It was very well done. The section that emphasized our stage of life in the womb was most memorable. It displayed babies (all stillborns or other natural causes) and really reminded me of the sanctity of life. It reminded me we are made in God's image and though these babies were never born, we know God knows them intimately. (Psalm 139). It was time well spent. It encouraged me to eat healthier, live longer and be in awe of our awesome Creator. Yeah baby. The $25 was well worth it.
Our other outing was the Miami Dade County Fair. This atmosphere had the complete opposite effect on me. I was encouraged to eat the worst of foods that almost guaranteed certain death. (deep fried Oreos, for instance) There is every offering of fried, melted and saturated foods. Let's be honest though, the food tastes good. If you're not stuffing your face with heart stopping goodies, you can ride "rides" that are sketchy at best. I've never been completely confident in the guy in the little glass booth that taunts and yells obscenities at riders. The nuts and bolts of the actual ride rig look as though they could fly loose at any time! And why not? They are taken down and travel the country at alarming speeds. But I'll pay to go on them. I even get a little queezy on the super twirl ones. Ugh. The money is never worth it.
Let's hope for my sake the Bodies' exhibit's influence lasts longer.
