Turid the Norweigan

We've met some pretty cool people here in Rhode Island.  People from all over the U.S. and parts of the world have converged for this wedding we are attending this afternoon.

One of the most interesting people I've gotten a chance to know is Turid.  She's from Norway.

Turid is a nurse by profession and a servant by heart.  She's led an interesting life.  Turid is part of a special response team from Norway that reacts to catastrophes around the world.

*When the tsunami hit two years ago, she lived in Bande Ace for 5 months helping people recover.
*She served in Somalia when all went crazy in Mogadishu.
*She served in Afghanistan after the huge earthquake.

The list goes on.

I loved listening to her stories of survival and tales of adventure while helping people heal.  I was amazed at the life she has lived.  I am so grateful there are people like her in times of great need.  People must feel great relief to trust in her in their time of pain.

I thought about the body of Christ, specifically churches in the U.S..  Many people see the church as a place of controversy and polity and ritual.  In reality, what would it look like if the world viewed us as a place of peace and rescue? How much impact would we have on our community, on our students specifically, if we loved simply because we have been loved?

Miami and the rest of the world would be a different place.
